An 1,100-ton shear made by Harris Press & Shear, Peachtree City, Ga., is now in place at the Fontana, Calif., scrap yard of Advanced Steel Recovery Inc. (ASR). According to representatives of the two companies, this is the first installation of the Harris GS-11-E-5 on the West Coast.
“By installing Harris’ GS-11, we are able to offer steel mills the best and most diverse product, which in turn allows us to ensure our clients the most competitive pricing structure and service efficiency,” says Nathan Frankel, president and founder of ASR.
The new Harris shear/baler/logger is an upgrade from a Harris H556DT model the company installed at its 6-acre facility less than three years ago. Edd Berkoben, president of Harris, notes that the equipment manufacturer has a relationship in place that precedes that. “Harris has had a solid partnership history with the Frankel family since 1974, when Nathan’s father Leo Frankel used his equipment at his facility, then called Frankel Iron & Metal (FIMCO),” Berkoben comments.
ASR was established in 1999 to provide ferrous and nonferrous scrap recycling services to Southern California customers.
