Korean paper manufacturer Hansol Paper reports it has entered license agreement with U.S.-based Smart Planet Technologies through which Hansol will offer barrier-coated paperboards using Smart Planet’s EarthCoating technology, applied to its duplex board.
The EarthCoating mineralized barrier resins are designed as high performance coatings containing less plastic than traditional low-density polyethylene (LDPE) coatings. The resins are heat-sealable, engineered for recyclability, compliant with U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements for use in contact with food and provide an excellent print surface, Hansol says.
Sang-Hun Lee, CEO of Hansol Paper, says, “Since the declaration of Hansol Environmental Charter in 1993, Hansol Paper has taken the lead in adoption and early settlement of a green management framework. Consistent with our Vision 2020 master plan, Hansol looks to expand development of eco-friendly product lines.”
Hansol reports that it plans to continue expanding its offering of eco-friendly solutions including high-performance coated duplex board for their markets. The company says it will offer duplex board products specific to various end-use applications and using different formulas of the barrier at a later date.
Hansol Paper is a subsidiary of the Hansol Group. Smart Planet Technologies is a packaging technology company.
