According to an article in the Hindustan Times, the Municipal Corp. of Gurgaon (MCG), India, will install four biomethanation plants to produce electricity from the city’s waste. Biomethanation is the process of converting organic material into biogas.
The plants will recycle up to 66 tonnes of waste per day. One plant in Ward 6 will methanise 1 tonne of household waste per day. Two plants will be installed at the city cow shelters, with a recycling capacity of 20 tonnes of animal waste per day. The largest plant will be installed at the vegetable market, with a daily capacity of 25 tonnes.
“We have asked for proposals from companies for this project,” Municipal Commissioner Amit Khatri told the Hindustan Times. “After choosing the best and most affordable proposal, a company will be permitted to start working on the project. We have received a few responses as of now.”
The MCG also has included a provision that any company that wishes to install the plants will be responsible for waste collection, the article says.
