MetalTech hires equipment industry veteran

Bill Guptail, previously with General Kinematics, will oversee new business development.

MetalTech Systems, based in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, has announced the addition of William “Bill” Guptail to the organization. Guptail was formerly with General Kinematics (GK), Crystal Lake, Illinois, as director of resource recovery.

Guptail began his career in the early 1980s as an engineer for General Kinematics and advanced to the positions of sales engineer, industry sales manager, and director of recycling for GK, according to a MetalTech Systems news release.

Guptail was inducted by the Construction Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) into its C&D Recycling Hall of Fame in 2013, hailed as a recycling industry leader and innovator. Guptail pioneered and patented several innovations used within C&D sorting systems, including:

  • primary finger screen for size separation and improved recovery rates from 40 percent to greater than 60 percent;
  • secondary b-line for fines, prompting improved recovery rates to greater than 70 percent; and
  • introducing the vibratory destoner for density separation, further improving recovery rates to greater than 80 percent.

Guptail modified internal design changes of the destoner for enhanced separation and created near zero dust control using recirculating air to minimize the dust emissions.

At MetalTech Systems, Guptail will initially be assigned with the oversight of new business development and continued existing customer contact in the Southeast, concentrating on Florida.

MetalTech Systems markets, manufactures, designs and installs recycling systems and equipment throughout North America.
