Grossman Group Receives Grants

The Grossman Group Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based paper and plastic recycling company, has announced that it has received three grants to increase and promote paper diversion from the overcrowded Franklin County Landfill, in Ohio’s southern Franklin County.  

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded The Grossman Group grants totaling more than $636,000. The funds will be used to acquire additional equipment to mechanically separate paper and cardboard from commingled commercial waste loads. Currently, this operation is processing more than 100 tons per day. Once the new equipment is installed, the facility will generate more than two hundred tons of re-usable scrap paper per day.

Mayor Michael Coleman and Mike Long, executive director of Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO), have recognized the company as the type of business they desire to become a big part of the Mayor’s “Get Green” initiative, according to The Grossman Group.

The third grant The Grossman Group received was an $8,500 marketing grant from SWACO to promote commercial cardboard and paper diversion from the landfill. The Grossman Group will allocate the marketing grant to a wallscape on the southwest corner of High and Spring streets in downtown Columbus. This wallscape illustrates that “green is the new black.” According to Te Grossman Group, “The objective is to inform the public that recycling your higher percentage paper and commercial waste is hip, fashionable and profitable.” SWACO will monitor the generation of new accounts and volume generated from this advertising initiative.

“Almost 40 percent of everything going into the landfill is paper, a commodity that should be recovered before it gets to the landfill,” Steve Grossman, president of The Grossman Group, says.

The Grossman Group facility is located at one of the sites of the former waste-to-energy facility on Jackson Pike, which it leases from the city of Columbus through SWACO.
