Monteray, which manages the collection of solid waste for BT (British Telecom) at 2,000 sites, has awarded a four-year contract to Greenstar UK to provide recycling services.
Last year, BT recycled 35,929 metric tons of waste in the UK, roughly half of the material generated.
Greenstar’s contract will be fully mobilized within three months and a planned program of waste audits will help identify opportunities for further improvements.
At the heart of the recommendations will be Greenstar’s approach of introducing mixed recycling where different recyclable materials can be placed in one container. Greenstar manages the segregation through its licensed materials recycling facilities, making recycling easier and more convenient for BT staff.
According to Peter George-Jones, managing director of Monteray, Greenstar proved ‘conclusively’ that it has the experience, expertise, creativity, resources and commitment to make a real difference.
“Improving the recovery and reuse of resources is a key objective for BT and therefore for Monteray, George adds. “We recognize this and are committed both as an organization and through our supply chain. The award of this contract with its innovation and the step changes being sought in performance will challenge everyone, but we’re confident that with Greenstar, it can and will be done.”
