Greenstar Implements Single-Stream Collection in Houston

Company expects to launch its collection program by this November.

Houston-based Greenstar North America has announced that it will be providing single-stream recycling services in Houston.

“Greenstar is investing in Houston because the demand is here,” says Matt Delnick, CEO of Greenstar North America. “The people of Houston want to make the right choice and recycle. Now we will be able to recycle with convenience in Houston, while reducing the cost of disposal and preserving our environment.”

Greenstar reports that through its single stream program, other Texas cities have seen a significant increase in their collection levels, including Dallas, with a 300 percent increase in collection; San Antonio, increasing its collection level by 200 percent; and Austin, which reported a 75 percent increase in recyclables collected.

To convert the city to single stream, Greenstar is upgrading its existing Houston facility with an anticipated launch date in November of this year. Upgrades will include new technologies to automate the sorting process.

“Greenstar believes that recycling should be at the core of all sustainability efforts,” says Daryl Smith, general manager, Greenstar Houston. “We are proud to be the first to offer Houston single stream—a convenient, sustainable recycling solution.”
