Green Planet 21, based in Oakland, Calif., has announced that its Wilmington, Calif., recycling facility is now able to process plastics contaminated with meat and other foods, blood and waste materials. The plant will incorporate the Kanemiya 1545 machine, for which it is the sole North American distributor.
In addition to the Kanemiya 1545, the company also will distribute the Kanemiya 603 from Kanemiya Co. Ltd. of the Aichi Prefecture in Japan. The Kanemiya 603 is designed to remove food and other sticky materials from plastic packaging, while the Kanemiya 1545 is capable of washing 500-600 pounds of plastics per hour using only 8 gallons of water, according to Green Planet 21.
Green Planet 21’s Wilmington plant was opened in late 2010 and is located in the city’s “heavy-haul zone,” meaning shipments of containers weighing more than 50,000 pounds are permitted. In addition to processing large volumes of plastic, paper, electronics and aluminum, the plant provides transloading services for scrap paper and plastics. The Wilmington location also offers on-site documents, electronic media and product destruction through American Shredding, a Green Planet 21 service provider.
Green Planet 21, founded by Steve Sutta, provides comprehensive services for more than 1,000 corporate clients in 34 states. It offers full-service recycling programs for paper, plastic, cardboard, electronics, aluminum and glass as well as confidential destruction services.
