Engineers from recycling equipment maker Green Machine LLC, Hampstead, New Hampshire, say the company has measured encouraging output volumes at its first complete recycling plant, which began processing material in October of 2015.
Green Machine engineers say they were cautious when estimating in advance that the system throughput of mixed commercial and residential single-stream materials would equate to about 20 tons per hour (tph). Based on subsequent measurements, however, West Coast Systems Engineer Peter Mendre says, “We were all surprised when our throughput test yielded nearly 40 tph clean throughput rates.”
The incoming material at the material recovery facility (MRF), whose owner wishes to remain anonymous, is characterized by Mendre as featuring highly contaminated fiber materials but very low glass content. Green Machine technology “picked so clean,” says Mendre, that “soon after startup, our customer requested that we join the container residue discharge conveyor with the ‘B’ line fiber sorting conveyor to create a fully closed-loop process.”
Mendre says of the request, “We were apprehensive, but again the customer is always right. We are now processing more than 30 tph of both curbside collected and baled single-stream along with mixed commercial waste materials with absolutely no residue discharge.”
Green Machine says it is eager to increase its West Coast footprint. “With service and parts capabilities centrally located in southern Oregon, we are poised to spread our lower cost solutions throughout West Coast markets,” says Green Machine founder and president John Green.
