AV furniture maker earns GreenCircle waste diversion certification

New Jersey-based Middle Atlantic is diverting 96 percent of its waste from landfills.

Middle Atlantic Products, a New Jersey-based maker of audio-visual (AV) external components and furnishings, has attained GreenCircle Certification for Waste Diversion from Landfill for its manufacturing plant in Fairfield, New Jersey.

The company says sustainability has been a critical focus for it since its inception in 1979, and that its commitment has taken on new meaning by undertaking continuous improvement efforts toward zero waste while growing and expanding operations.

“Middle Atlantic has a rich history of environmental responsibility, driven by the aggressive sustainability standards we’ve set for ourselves,” says Mike Baker, the company’s president. “Every employee is committed to continuously improving our sustainability practices as we grow our business to better serve our customers. Managing our manufacturing processes to result in such little waste is an incredible accomplishment, and I’m proud of how hard our team has worked to reach this milestone. We’ll keep pushing until we’re at completely zero waste.”

Middle Atlantic Products is part of West Hartford, Connecticut-based Legrand, a designer and manufacturer of products for the electrical and digital building infrastructure market, including AV components and furniture for the commercial, industrial and residential (home theater) markets.

The certification process has verified that Middle Atlantic’s Fairfield facility diverts 96 percent of non-hazardous and hazardous materials from landfill. The company says it monitors its processes spanning from product inception through manufacturing to delivery. Middle Atlantic reuses material, sources sustainable parts and recycles, according to a Green Circle news release.

GreenCircle Certified LLC says it was established “to ensure specificity in third-party certification after many misleading or unsubstantiated sustainability claims were encountered in the green marketplace.”
