Green Arabia aims to reduce waste by 40 percent

The company wants to minimize the amount of cardboard and paper headed to landfills.

Al Dhafra Waste Collection (Green Arabia), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, reports that it plans to reduce waste directed to landfills by 40 percent. The company says as little as 3 percent of cardboard and paper waste is recycled, and some of this quantity is exported as raw materials to other markets for manufacturing paper products.

Green Arabia is the waste collection arm of Al Dhafra Paper Manufacturing Company LLC (ADPMCL), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. ADPMCL reports that increased benefits can be bought into its local economy through increased local production of old corrugated containers (OCC) materials.  ADPMCL is a joint venture between M.A.H.Y. Khoory & Co. and Queenex.

“As an Emirati and locally owned entity, we aim to make a significant contribution to the Abu Dhabi economy in line with its Vision 2030 to build a circular economy,” says Salahuddin Sharafi, chairman, ADPMCL, in a company report.

Green Arabia collects and imports old used cartons to manufacture kraft liner and fluting that is supplied to local box manufacturers and also exported to other countries. Green Arabia reports that helping local recyclers will reduce the import of waste from other countries, as well.
