Great Lakes Electronics, Best Buy Team Up for Recycling Drive

Great Lakes Electronics Corp., Detroit, and Best Buy have teamed up to host a consumer electronics recycling drive at six Michigan Best Buy locations Saturday, April 26, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

           

Best Buy will provide a gift cart to the first 100 contributors at each location.

           

Staffed collection trucks will be stations at Best Buy stores in the following locations:

 

  • Grand Rapids, 3900 Alpine Ave.;
  • Flint, 3660 Miller Rd.;
  • Farmington Hills, 30830 Orchard Lake Rd.;
  • Madison Heights, 32320 John R Rd.;
  • Novi, 21051 Haggerty Rd.; and
  • Ann Arbor, 3100 Lohr Rd.

 “Working with Best Buy provides a great opportunity for consumers to safely dispose of unwanted and broken electronic equipment,” Nathan Zack, founder, CEO and president of Great Lakes Electronics, says. “We’re hoping consumers will take advantage of this free program and bring in their obsolete electronic devices."

 

Memory devices, such as hard drives, will be accepted and shredded at Great Lakes Electronics’ Detroit plant. Other accepted devices include computers, PDAs, telephone equipment, TVs, VCRs and other small electronics and household appliances weighing less than 100 pounds. Refrigerators and air conditioning units will not be accepted.

Great Lakes Electronics Corp. was founded in 2000. The company offers nationwide collection and works primarily with corporate clients, large retainers and government agencies. It employees a staff of 120 people at six recycling facilities in Detroit; Chicago; Atlanta; Daytona Beach, Fla.; Orlando, Fla.; and Ontario.
