GRC Wireless Recycling on Target to Recycle Nearly 2 Million Cell Phones in 2008

Company's new facility facilitates recycling of cell phones.

Miramar, Fla.-based cell phone recycler GRC Wireless Recycling has announced that it recycled more than 530,000 cell phones during the first quarter of 2008.

GRC Wireless recycles cell phones for nonprofits, wireless dealers, wholesalers and wireless operators nationwide. The company says it expects to recycle approximately 2 million cell phones in 2008.

“We are extremely excited to reach the 500,000 milestone in a three-month period,” Marc Leff, co-founder and COO of GRC Wireless Recycling, says.

The company cites its new recycling facility, which opened in October of 2007, as a key facilitator of its growth. “Our expansion in the south Florida markets reaffirms our longstanding belief that proximity to the Miami export market is key to our success,” Leff says. “Latin America consumes over 75 percent of the cell phones recycled in the U.S., and Miami is the export center for Latin America. Our geographic proximity to Miami and familiarity with Latin American markets, culture and business leaders, offers GRC a competitive advantage.”

Since its founding in 2001, GRC Wireless Recycling has contributed more than $5.5 million to thousands of nonprofits via its cell phone recycling programs. The company launched its Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net) program in 2002, which provides recycling services for cell phones and a source of fundraising to shelters. Today, more than 80 percent of the domestic violence shelters in the United States actively use Shelter Alliance, according to GRC.
