Two organizations in Randolph County, Ind., have received state grants to put recycled tires to use in paving projects, according to a report in the Palladium-Item (Richmond, Ind.).
The Randolph County YMCA will receive $14,730 to pave the surface of a walking trail with rubber-modified asphalt. In addition, Randolph Southern Jr./Sr. High School will receive $30,000 to pave the school’s athletic track surface using crumb rubber bonded with a latex binder.
The grants come from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. According to the report, it has awarded $365,739 in Waste Tire Recycling Grants to communities and organizations in the state.
According to the report, Indiana generates more than 6 million scrap tires per year. The grants incorporate the sue of scrap tires in asphalt parking lots and walking paths and support research to develop additional uses for scrap tires in the future.
