The compactor will enable the transfer station to reduce hauling costs for the plastics it recovers by $2,900 per year.
In 2006, Chester Transfer Station recycled 393 tons of newspaper, kraft paper and cardboard, magazines, mixed paper, glass, tin cans, aluminum cans, scrap metal, Freon and No. 1 and No. 2 plastics at a net profit of $3,984, according to Chester Recycling Committee.
