IPSCO Steel held an official grand opening of its newest mill, located in Mobile, Ala. The in-plate mill, which began initial operations early this year, is running at 50 percent of its 1.25 million tons rated capacity. The company hopes to have the plant at full capacity by early next year. The new plant cost $425 million.
The Mobile plant is the Canadian-based company’s third steel-making facility in the United States. Additionally, IPSCO operates five coil-processing plants and six pipe making facilities, and a number of scrap processing facilities.
