Graham Packaging Product Receives Endorsement

Association recognizes recyclable possibilities of product.

SurBond-E, barrier material developed by Graham Packaging Company, L.P., in conjunction with its proprietary SurShot multilayer co-injection process, has been endorsed as recyclable by PET Container Recycling Europe.

PETCORE is a European-based trade association that focuses on the development of PET packaging, with a particular emphasis on PET recycling.

With the SurShot process, which produces two thin barrier layers as opposed to one thick barrier layer like other co-injection systems, Graham Packaging can control the amount and distribution of barrier material. The process can be tailored for each customer and application, and delivers a barrier material percentage weight that is two to three times lower than most other competitive co-injection systems can achieve.

"We realized from the start that the Graham Packaging Company had to provide very solid evidence, as it is well understood that EvOH has detrimental effects on recycled products," PETCORE Technical Director Karl Schopf said. "They went the extra mile, and we appreciate their patience and commitment during this lengthy process."
