Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma has announced its plan to open a recycling center in downtown Oklahoma City. Jennifer Bradford, communications and business development coordinator for Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma, says that the facility will be used as a collection point for a wide range of recyclables, including polystyrene, glass and aluminum. Material collected at the facility will be trucked to Goodwill’s main location in Oklahoma City.
The nonprofit is planning on renovating an existing facility that has been abandoned for around 10 years, Bradford says. The renovation will be partially funded by a grant that was awarded to the City of Oklahoma City under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
To assuage concerns by some businesses that have voiced opposition to the planned project, Bradford says that the facility will be staffed by employees during business hours. When the facility is closed, Goodwill will have a security guard on the premises.
