GO Auto Recycling to Open Jacksonville, Fla., Site

GO Auto Recycling, which was formed by two former employees of the David J. Joseph Co., has announced plans to open its second facility in Jacksonville, Fla. The new facility, to be called GO Pull-It, will target the “do-it-yourself” (DIY) sector, according to the company. GO Auto Recycling’s first facility, also in Jacksonville, is a wholesale operation that sells parts to companies in the repair and collision businesses.

The company says the second facility will allow GO Auto Recycling to better serve its customers, which it says includes both professional repair facilities and DIY mechanics.

According to the company, the new GO Pull-It facility, scheduled to be open by the third quarter of 2013, will use vehicle de-pollution and processing technology in which all fluids and hazardous materials will be removed from the vehicles prior to recycling.

Jason Finley, one of the co-owners, along with Brian Shell, says the new facility is the first phase of development to a 50-acre land parcel the company purchased in late 2012. The first phase will occupy about 20 acres.

Mervis Industries Inc., an Illinois-based scrap metal company, has been a partner with GO Auto Recycling since the company opened its first facility. According to a published report, Mervis paid $2 million for land where the new DIY facility will be located. In addition to Illinois, Mervis has a presence in four states. Finley says he is confident the company will be able to get enough end-of-life vehicles to be profitable. The company will have an auto crusher on site to prepare hulks for shipment to an auto shredder once enough of the parts have been removed. “Auto shredders do a great job,” says Finley. “We are a customer of the auto shredders [and] as of right now we want to remain on the auto recycling side.”

Michael Mervis with Mervis Industries says that rather than adding scrap processing equipment at the GO Pull-it site, “Our number one job right now is to be successful on the auto recycling side.”
