Global Recycling Day 2019 to focus on youth, future

The Global Recycling Foundation has announced the second annual Global Recycling Day will feature a “Recycling into the Future” theme. The second annual event takes place March 18. 

The Global Recycling Foundation was formed in October 2018 by the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, in an effort to support the promotion of recycling, and the recycling industry, across the world in order to showcase its vital role in preserving the future of the planet. According to a news release from the Global Recycling Foundation, the event brings together cities and organizations from across the world to encourage and recognize the role everyone plays to improving the circular economy. Last year, more than 13 million people participated in the event. 

The Global Recycling Foundation reports that this year’s event will focus on the importance and power of youth, innovation and education in ensuring a brighter future for the world. According to a news release, more details will be announced in the next two months leading up to the event. The world is encouraged to join in across social media channels using the hashtag #GlobalRecyclingDay.

“The success of the first Global Recycling Day in 2018 showed just how many millions of people across the world are willing to support recycling,” says Ranjit Baxi, founding president of the Global Recycling Foundation. “We now want to spread the message further and make sure that the importance of better recycling practices is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. 

“The second Global Recycling Day will allow the Global Recycling Foundation to communicate with young people globally, ensuring they know of the positive impact they can have on the future of the planet and the preservation of our natural resources. The future is in our hands and together we can make a difference.”
