The Glass Recycling Coalition (GRC), Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking input from haulers, material recovery facilities (MRFs), community program managers, recycling coordinators, glass processors and end users and/or manufacturers on glass recovery efforts.
The organization is collecting survey responses until Sept. 22 through www.surveymonkey.com/r/Glass2023. Last conducted in 2020, this survey promises to provide a look at how glass recycling programs have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent market conditions. GRC says it will aggregate data on the types of glass collection programs, motivation for glass recycling and challenges in community recycling programs.
“This survey is extremely important, and strong participation by local governments, glass manufacturers and MRFs across the country is crucial to better understanding the challenges unique to the glass recycling industry,” says Scott DeFife of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI), Arlington, Virgina, and GRC Leadership Committee. “This is the first time since 2020 that the GRC has performed this survey, and we are excited to compare the results to previous years to see how local programs are performing and what the GRC can do to help get more glass cullet into the supply chain.”
The survey data to be collected will be compared with previous years’ surveys and provide a real-time snapshot of how glass is currently recycled, identify challenges in the glass recycling system and help to inform the direction of future GRC efforts, the organization says.
Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), Ann Arbor is managing the survey. Respondents are asked to provide basic identification information such as the type of organization. Providing specific contact information is optional, and this information will not be included in the survey report, which will be published later this year.
