The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI), Arlington, Virginia, has announced a call for submissions for the 2027 Clear Choice Awards, a recognition program honoring glass packaging design in North America.

GPI says the Clear Choice Awards have celebrated brands that use glass packaging to elevate product quality, strengthen brand storytelling and support sustainability goals since 1989. The awards recognize glass as both a design medium and a circular packaging solution.

New for 2027, GPI has introduced the “historic bottle reissued” category, recognizing brands that revive and reuse legacy glass bottle designs. This category highlights how heritage packaging can be reintroduced in ways that honor craftsmanship, reinforce brand identity and support reuse and circularity.

“Glass has always been about more than packaging, it’s about quality, trust and longevity,” says GPI President Scott DeFife. “The Clear Choice Awards spotlight brands that understand the role packaging plays in storytelling and sustainability. This year’s historic bottle reissued category is a great example of how glass connects the past, present and future.”

Eligible products for the 2027 Clear Choice Awards must be new products commercially available in North America during 2025–2026 and fall within one of the official award categories, which include:

  • beer, cider & malt-based beverages;

  • non-alcoholic beverages;

  • wine;

  • spirits;

  • spirits-based RTD/RTP;

  • food/dietary supplements;

  • cosmetics/fragrances;

  • historic bottle reissued;

  • sustainability & innovation; and

  • global member company, which only current GPI association members are eligible to enter.

Entries will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges who will evaluate submissions based on innovation, design, shelf impact and brand inspiration.

Entries can be submitted online via the GPI submission form, and filled or empty bottle samples for judging must be sent by mail to GPI’s headquarters. Entries will be accepted on a rolling basis through Dec. 18. Entry is free for GPI members and is $125 for non-members.

The institute says winners of the 2027 Clear Choice Awards will be announced in 2027 and featured in digital and print media, as well as highlighted across GPI’s social media platforms.
