Kosmos Glass Recycling, a division of Kosmos Recycling Ltd., recently opened a glass recycling facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The facility costs £1.2 million (US$2.144 million).
The facility received significant financial assistance from Invest Northern Ireland. The company expects to process more than 8,000 metric tons of glass over the first year.
To feed the plant the company will collect contaminated waste glass from hotels, pubs and restaurants and reprocess it to produce glass cullet using a Krysteline machine - the first of its specification in Northern Ireland.
Robert Mathers, Kosmos Glass Recycling’s managing director, said, “Considering the potential financial implications for businesses which fail to comply with the latest EU legislation relating to waste management, Kosmos Glass Recycling will provide local firms with a fast and economical method of dealing with waste glass.”
