UK plastics recycler to open new facility

GFSL, a plastics recycling company headquartered in the United Kingdom, has announced plans to open a mixed rigid plastics recycling facility at its location in Redcar, U.K. In a press release, the company says that the new facility will have a designed annual processing capacity of around 20,000 metric tons of mixed rigid plastics. Plastics to be handled at the facility will include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

The rigid plastics processed at the facility will be used to create regrinds for manufacturing a range of plastic products. The company adds that it is going through the testing phase at the pre-sent time and the recycling facility is expected to become fully operational by March.

Martin Robb, GFSL’s director, says the company will collect feedstock from a host of sites throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. “The fully automated technology has been configured in a way that has not yet been done, and this will enable us to recover the three main streams from the mix: PVC, PE and PP as individual regrind fractions,” Robb says.

“There has been a lot of interest in the finished product from the U.K., Europe and further afield, and we are looking forward to increasing production over the next two months," Robb adds.
