Residents of Pembroke, Mass., have expressed concern over a plan to cap a 14-acre landfill with construction and demolition material, according to a report in the Enterprise (Brockton, Mass.)
City health officials are in charge of the proposed project, which will haul in 400,000 cubic yards of C&D material over a two-year period to fill the Hobomock Street landfill, according to the paper.
Jeffrey Nangle, a consultant representing Pembroke health officials, tells the Enterprise that the city will us C&D materials from contractors who pay a per-truck tipping fee to bring it in.
The Enterprise reports that residents, especially those whose property adjoins the site, have expressed concerns about increased truck traffic, potential road damage, odors and contaminants leaking in to nearby wells and wetlands.
