German Steel Company Hiking Prices

Higher scrap prices lead German company to boost finished product prices.

ThyssenKrupp AG announced plans to raise the price for stainless flat steel by 50 euros per metric ton (approximately US$63), beginning May 1. The company attributed the decision to higher scrap metal and energy prices, its steel unit said. The rapid increase in scrap metal prices are not covered by alloy surcharges. The company also noted that the price increase does not comprise the development of alloying elements, which will be invoiced as previously in the form of surcharges.

ThyssenKrupp units ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH and the Italian division ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni SPA will increase the prices for deliveries to all countries in Europe, ThyssenKrupp Steel AG said.

The Nirosta mill produced 1.1 million metric tons of stainless flat products. The Acciai Speciali Terni produced slightly less than 1 million metric tons last year.
