GEKO, a German company that specializes in electronics recycling has chosen Edmonton, Alberta, Canada as the site to build and develop a $20 million recycling facility.
GEKO expects to break ground on the new site by this coming spring. The company is expected to sign a final contract within the next several weeks.
Bill Smith, mayor of Edmonton, noted that the contract followed his visit to Germany recently.
“This new plant will strengthen our expertise and reputation as world leaders in waste management technologies”, Smith said.
The final contract, which GEKO is expected to execute within the next few weeks, will be sent to Edmonton’s City Council for final approval.
According to reports, GEKO will lese the land from the city for $1 per year, with the city and the company sharing in the profits from the facility.
