Gerdau Ameristeel Corp., Tampa, Fla., has contracted Danieli Morgardshammar, Cranberry Township, Pa., to upgrade the equipment at its mills in Whitby, Ontario, and Cartersville, Ga.
“Gerdau Ameristeel is making substantial investments to make our operations world-class,” says Andre Johannpeter, chief operating officer. “The upgrades in Whitby and Cartersville will improve our productivity and help us better serve our customers.”
The installation of new finishing facilities are among the upgrades scheduled for the Whitby mill, including a new continuous-cut-to-length (CCL) system, according to a release from Gerdau Ameristeel. A secondary rebar bundler with stacking capabilities for flats and steel squares will also be added.
At Cartersville, a 1,000-ton stationary cold shear and 80-foot, double-head magnetic stacker are among the planned installations.
Gerdau Ameristeel is among the largest minimill steel producers in North America. The company’s products are generally sold to steel service centers, fabricators or directly to original equipment manufacturers.
