Georgia Recycling Coalition Announces Awards

Four members, three schools and a PR firm earn Spirit of Green Awards

The Georgia Recycling Coalition (GRC) will honor four members, three schools and a public relations firm at its 18th annual conference in St. Simon’s Island, Ga. on Aug. 25, 2009. The Spirit of Green Awards is in its second year of annually recognizing accomplishments in recycling and waste reduction in Georgia. The 2009 categories/winners include:

  • Volunteer of the Year
    Jennifer Szabo, Georgia Dept of Community Affairs
    GRC Members who have provided the organization with value added benefits toward achieving the mission
  • Outstanding Institutional Program
    Emory Recycles
    May include college, university, military installations or campus/industrial entities
     
  • Outstanding Government/Community Program
    Dalton Whitfield SWMA
    Local programs that exemplify comprehensive and sustainable components and practices
  • Outstanding Corporate Leader
    Power Partners Inc
    Businesses that have implemented exemplary waste reduction/recycling programs for their industry
     
  • Outstanding School Recycling Awards
    Recognizing Excellence in Recycling & Waste Reduction in Georgia
    - Chase Street Elementary, Clarke County
    - Simpson Middle School, Cobb County
    - The Lovett School, Atlanta 
  • Innovation Award
    Hill & Knowlton for “I Don’t Recycle” Campaign
    Individual or entity exemplifying unique programs or processes toward increased recovery

The Georgia Recycling Coalition’s mission is to promote and enhance waste reduction and recycling programs and activities in the state. It is comprised of members representing all sectors of the recycling industry. GRC is an affiliate of the National Recycling Coalition (NRC) and was awarded the Recycling Coalition of the Year for 2008 by NRC.
