George Chen, president of G&T Trading International, a paper recycling firm based in Clifton, New Jersey, received the Commissioner’s Award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection during the annual Association of New Jersey Recyclers recycling symposium, held in Neptune, New Jersey, Oct. 15, 2014.
Chen has served as president of the Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ (ISRI's) Paper Stock Industries (PSI) chapter and presently serves as ISRI’s paper division director.
“For George, recycling is a passion that he cares deeply about and shares with others as a way of helping preserve the planet for future generations,” says Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “He has shown a strong dedication to the industry through various leadership roles and through promoting its many benefits. We are proud to call George an ISRI member and congratulate him on this well-deserved award.”
Chen also has served as the president of the New Jersey Paper Recycling Association (NJPRA) since 2002.
“This award represents 17 years of hard work and obstacles I had to go through as a first-generation immigrant from Taiwan in order to build my own recycling business,” Chen says. “I have been blessed to have had the support of the industry associations, ISRI, PSI and NJPRA, as well as my family and friends. This award encourages me to continue to promote recycling and our efforts to keep this earth green for the future of our children.”
