George Adams, CEO of Orange, California-based SA Recycling, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ).
The newspaper posted an article online in late March that reviews Adams’ career and portrays the current size and scale of SA Recycling as a firm with $4 billion in annual revenue.
In March of last year, Recycling Today interviewed Adams, who describes joining the business started by his father, the late George Adams Sr., in late 1977.
In the ensuing decades, SA moved beyond an initial business model that entailed operating one scrap yard, auto salvage and harvesting scrap metal at landfills. “It was a modest start to a company that now boasts more than 120 scrap recycling locations and that likely collects and processes more scrap metal than any other firm in North America,” the report states.
