Genan Business & Development A/S, a tire recycling company headquartered in Viborg, Denmark, has entered into a research and development project with the tire company Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. that is aimed at refining the recycled rubber powder that Genan produces. The goal of the project is to reduce the powder to a level where it can be used to produce new tires.
According to Genan, the project will be both global and comprehensive in scope. The project will look at how much virgin resources can be saved, as well as the potential reduction in carbon dioxide emissions that would be avoided.
Genan operates three tire recycling plants in Germany and one in Demark. Combined, the company has an annual processing capacity of 275,000 metric tons. According to one report, Genan says that it is able to process around 90 percent of all the scrap tires generated in Denmark.
