Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP), based in Barrie, Ontario, has announced that its Grand Prairie, Texas, facility has become the first of its locations to achieve certification to the Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices standard.
Perry Johnson Registrars Inc. conducted the audit of the facility.
GEEP says its Durham, N.C., facility is slated to receive its R2 certification in October 2010, and the company’s Warren, Mich., location in 2011.
The R2 Practices standard was the result of a multi-stakeholder process that included government agencies, major OEMs, recyclers and other experts in the electronics industry. The R2 standard requires commitments to worker health and safety, data security and the tracking of downstream materials.
“GEEP found the R2 standard to be an ideal fit for its industry-leading practices in compliance, data security and health and safety,” says Chris Gariepy, vice president of international marketing at GEEP. “GEEP’s certification to the R2 standard represents our continued initiative to stay ahead of the curve in processing methods and compliance.”
