Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc. (GEEP), based in Barrie, Ontario, has announced that it has been selected by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) for the provision of environmentally sound recycling of Federal Surplus Electric & Electronic Equipment (EEE) nationwide for the Canadian government.
GEEP says it has taken a leading role in providing responsible solutions for the processing of electronic scrap into commodities for manufacturing. This Standing Offer will contribute to PWGSC’s mandate of assisting the government in its commitment to become a model of environmental excellence in its operations and within its broader sustainable development strategy, according to a GEEP news release. The Standing Offer is expected to recycle more than 4 million pounds of the Canadian government’s electronic waste into commodities.
To qualify for this Standing Offer, GEEP says its Barrie and Edmonton processing facilities passed a rigorous third party audit and assessment of its procedures and processing facilities. The audits confirmed that both locations are in compliance with environmentally sound management criteria developed by the Canadian government, according to a GEEP press release.
The criteria were based on emerging and established provincial and national regulations as well as international obligations for electronic scrap recycling. GEEP is already qualified as an approved processor under the majority of Canadian provincial electronic scrap programs and continues to work with other legislative bodies globally, the company says.
GEEP is a global service provider with fully integrated electronics recycling and recycling technology and has facilities in Toronto; Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta; Montreal; and Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as a number of collection sites across Canada.
