G-P Shutting Down Machine

Paper machine made printing and writing paper. Scheduled to permanently close by first quarter of next year.

Georgia-Pacific Corp announced it will permanently close one of its Camas, Wash., paper machines. The machine made communication paper. G-P also noted that it will use the mill’s excess pulp drying capacity to serve other G-P locations. The machine is expected to be closed by the first quarter of next year.

The Camas facility's towel and tissue operations will not be affected as the company continues to concentrate on strategic investments in premium paper towel manufacturing and related improvements in its West manufacturing region. The machine being retired produces about 65,000 tons of uncoated free sheet grades annually.

Following the closure, the Camas mill will produce approximately 235,000 tons of communication papers and 195,000 tons of converted towel and tissue products annually.
