Georgia-Pacific Corp. is in talks to buy some of Anglo-American PLC's paper assets in Russia, Vedomosti reported.
Anglo-American's Neusiedler Syktykvar unit is one of the largest paper producers in Russia, specializing in fine-coated papers. However, it is looking to offload non-core activities such as newsprint and toilet paper, Vedomosti quoted Syktykvar Chief Executive Roman Starkov as saying.
He said Georgia-Pacific, one of the world's largest sanitary and hygiene tissue makers in the world, was in talks to take over the toilet paper operations, but said that there are no talks at present over the newsprint operations, an area in which most global players are struggling through a cyclical low at present.
