Funsicle, an outdoor recreation brand within the Polygroup organization, is partnering with international recycling company TerraCycle to urge customers to recycle their Funsicle pools and floats for free through the Funsicle Inflatables Free Recycling Program.
“We founded Funsicle on the core values of innovation, quality, fun and sustainability,” Polygroup North America CEO Eric Steinmeyer says. “Our partnership with TerraCycle reinforces our commitment to sustainability, enabling consumers nationwide to easily recycle their old inflatables and keep them out of landfills. This initiative sets our brand apart, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it’s already making on the environment.”
It is challenging for local recyclers to process most polyvinyl chloride (PVC) inflatable pools and floats given their high chlorine content and hazardous additives. The Funsicle Inflatables Free Recycling Program addresses this issue by keeping old Funsicle inflatables out of landfills and incinerators, the company says.
“There’s a common misconception that once inflatables are worn out or beyond repair, the only option is to toss them in the trash,” TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky says. “Through this innovative recycling program, Funsicle is helping consumers responsibly dispose of their old inflatable pools and floats, keeping summer cool and sustainable.”
To participate in the program, consumers must sign up for the Funsicle Inflatables Free Recycling Program on the program page and download a prepaid shipping label and mail in deflated Funsicle pools and floats to TerraCycle for recycling. Once collected, the pools and floats are cleaned, shredded and separated by material type. The plastics are sorted by category and then ground to make recycled plastic blends that manufacturers use to make new products.
