Fund Established for Family of Roy Pearson

Harris employee dies suddenly at age 42.

Harris Waste Management Group Inc., Peachtree City, Ga., has established a memorial fund for the family of Roy Pearson, a field service technician for the company who died suddenly while away from home on a service call in Massachusetts.

Pearson, who died of natural causes, passed away in his hotel room in Avon, Mass., on Tuesday morning, July 16. He was 42.

Pearson was based in Harris’ Cordele, Ga., plant and assisted Harris customers with advanced electronic diagnostics on their equipment. Harris vice president of sales and marketing Scott Williams says Pearson was a recognized expert in the repair and installation of Harris’ scrap processing equipment line.

In his 15-year tenure with Harris, Pearson traveled the globe installing and repairing customer equipment and was instrumental in leading Harris’ project in the former Soviet Union to decommission former Soviet ICBM missiles and nuclear powered submarines as part of the Start II treaty.

“On the high-end diagnostics, Roy was the expert,” says Williams. “He was our go-to guy internationally. A salesperson likes to think they’re the lynchpin, but guys like Roy and what he brought to customers made our jobs easy. The efforts of Roy probably created more customer loyalty than any person could hope to do,” adds Williams.

“All of us at Harris grieve for our loss and pray for Roy’s family in their time of need,” says Edd Berkoben, president of Harris Waste Management Group Inc. “He was a great representative of his community, his industry and for Harris”.

Pearson is survived by his wife Starla, of Cordele. A memorial fund for her has been set up and donations in Roy’s memory can be sent to: the Roy Pearson Memorial Fund, c/o Harris Waste Management Group Inc., P.O. Box 998, 315 West 12th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015.
