Fuji Electric Co Ltd will start a beverage container recycling service in collaboration with Dutch machinery maker Envipco Holding NV, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing sources close to the matter.
The two have set up a 50-50 joint venture to operate the recycling service, it said.
Under the service, users will be awarded points on free magnetic cards for putting used containers into collection machines, and receive discounts, according to the accumulated points at partner stores.
The new firm has installed 20 collection machines in one region of Japan. Additionally, the new firm expects to sign contracts with five municipalities in two other regions of Japan. AFX
