Fortress Solutions achieves R2:2013 certification at Florida facility

Electronics recycling company's Florida location also holds TL9000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications.

Fortress Solutions has announced that it has achieved R2:2013 certification for its Leesburg, Florida, location. R2:2013, also known as Responsible Recycling Practices, is a globally recognized industry standard for managing environmental, health, safety and security aspects of electronics reuse and recycling operations.

Fortress Solutions is headquartered in Plano, Texas, with facilities Lenexa, Kansas, and Leesburg.

The R2:2013 standard features processes, safety measures and documentation requirements for businesses that repair and recycle used electronics. Boulder, Colorado-based SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International) is the housing body and ANSI-accredited standards development organization for the R2:2013 standard and is responsible for its development and maintenance.

Lisa Somerville, executive vice president and general manager of Florida operations for Fortress Solutions, says, “We are proud to have achieved certification to the R2:2013 Standard, rounding out our well-established quality, health and safety and environmental standards accreditations, including TL9000, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.”

She adds, “The R2:2013 certification was supported by a rigorous audit process that confirmed our commitment to the highest benchmark of environmental responsibility in the handling of used electronics.”

The R2:2013 certification comes on the heels of Fortress Solutions’ recent acquisition of Restor Telecom in November 2015. According to research from Exact Ventures, an independent market intelligence firm based in Burlingame, California, the combined company is now the No. 2 market share leader in telecom equipment repair and refurbishment for the North American market. The company has logistics and repair depots locations in more than 65 countries worldwide.
