Brass ingot maker Forelli Pietro Srl, Brescia, Italy, anticipates completion of a new continuous cast bronze ingot manufacturing line by May of 2011. The new production capacity is being installed to enable the Forelli Group to more fully supply European and overseas markets with brass and bronze ingots and alloys.
Holding company Pietro Forelli, a fourth-generation family business, includes three other subsidiary companies run by members of the Forelli family that use the recycled-content ingots to produce other finished and semi-finished products. Those products include extruded, hollow and drawn brass bars made by Metallurgica San Marco, extruded profiles made by Cidneo Metallurgica and hot forgings for brass taps, fittings and ball valve products made by Tecnofor.
The new ingot making facility will join the existing production lines in being supplied with scrap by Leghe & Metalli International Srl (LMI), based in Milan. LMI was founded by Fernando Duranti and his wife Antonella in May of 1981.
According to Duranti, a former president of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Forelli Group’s “new programs [means] their raw material requirements have and will [continue to] gradually increase,” and thus will also mean growth for LMI.
Adds Duranti, “For this reason, they thought it wise to seek new potential sources of supply for their scrap requirements so as to satisfy the need for raw materials. Their search has led them to conclude a special agreement between the Forelli Group and LMI as one of their consistent suppliers of all grades of scrap originating from European and worldwide sources required for the production of all their products. Trading of other grades of metal scrap is also contemplated in the deal, as well as the sale of their ingots and products worldwide.”
