FMS Becomes Pioneer

Pioneer Recycling is new name for Florida recycling company.

Pioneer Recycling is the new name for the former FMS, a recycler of bottling plant surplus and other materials based in Tampa, Fla.

Company founder Tony McCarthy says FMS, profiled in the Dec. 2006 issue of Recycling Today (“Squeeze Play,” pgs. 40-44), has expanded so rapidly into the recycling segment that it needs to incorporate the word into its company name.

FMS was founded as Florida Marine Supply, and after it added the recycling of 55-gallon drums it adopted the name FMS Drum Depot.

In the past three years, however, the company’s success in servicing bottling plants and other generators of recyclable materials has found McCarthy concentrating on the recycling side of his business.

The company now has a range of clients not only in the United States, but also in McCarthy’s native United Kingdom, where Pioneer Recycling UK will operate as the sister company to Pioneer Recycling USA.

In addition to servicing bottling plants and beverage distributors, the two companies will also be serving customers in the automotive plastic scrap segment and potentially in the recyclable medical waste sector.
