A fire that broke out a scrap metal yard in Wacol, Australia, near Brisbane, sent smoke drifting over the city on Australia’s east coast. An initial media report points to a lithium ion battery as a likely cause of the blaze.
According to an online article on the Nine Digital Pty Ltd. website, the fire occurred at a scrap yard on Boundary Road in Wacol, which matches the address for Raw Metal Corp.
Fire fighters from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services reportedly spent the night of Monday, Sept. 10, and into the next morning containing the blaze. Several overhead photos of the fire and accompanying smoke can be viewed as part of the online article.
The News Nine website states, “An exploding lithium battery is believed to be the cause of the fire.”
