Fibrek, a pulp and paper company headquartered in Montreal, has announced that it will extend scheduled downtime at its Fairmont, W.Va., deinking paper mill by two weeks.
The mill originally scheduled downtime to begin Sept. 12 and run for two weeks. However, the company says that because of current market conditions it will extend the downtime an additional two weeks. Fibrek says the recycled bleached kraft pulp (RBK) market is being negatively affected by higher recovered fiber prices.
During the downtime the company will replace two decker drums and perform annual maintenance.
It is expected that the downtime will remove nearly 15,000 metric tons of RBK pulp from production. The mill has an annual capacity of 215,000 metric tons of RBK per year.
Fibrek also operates an RBK mill in Menominee, Mich., and a bleached softwood kraft pulp at a mill in Saint-Felcien, Quebec.
