Brussels-based corrugated packaging industry association FEFCO has announced that Fady Gemayel has been elected as its new president. Gemayel is a co-owner and honorary chairman at France-based Gemayel Freres S.A.L., a family owned corrugated cardboard company.
Gemayel has been elected to a two-year term and will succeed Dr. Jan Klingele, who is a managing partner of Germany-based Klingele Papierwerke. Klingele has been at the FEFCO helm for four years and will now serve as a vice president.
Saverio Mayer, the CEO for Europe of the Ireland-based Smurfit Kappa Group, has been re-elected as vice president. Nina Iversen, the managing director of Norway-based Glomma Papp, will remain as FEFCO honorary vice president.
“I am very honored to take over the presidency of FEFCO,” says Gemayel. “it is a privilege to serve for an industry that has been recognized as essential during the Covid-19 crisis. We can all be proud for being able to provide vital goods to serve society.”
Adds Gemayel. “I am very pleased to continue the excellent work done by my predecessor and the FEFCO team. I am committed to responding to the new challenges ahead. It is of vital importance to increase the awareness around the sustainability of our material, which is an example of circularity, and to promote its many benefits for logistics, product protection and brand recognition.”
Gemayel also is co-owner and chairman of Société Libanaise de Carton (SOLICAR), GEMDOUBS and NORPAPER, paper mills located in France.
