Federal Government Agencies Challenged to Boost Electronics Recycling

A host of federal agencies are calling for federal facilities to recycle or donate electronic scrap materials.

The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice and a number of other federal government agencies are challenging federal government offices to recycle or donate used computers and electronic equipment.

The agencies launched the Electronics Recycling and Reuse Challenge Nov. 15th. The program will run until April 22, 2006. Selected federal facilities will receive recognition based on the amount of electronic scrap recycled or donated.

Khary Cauthen, special assistant to the chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said, “I challenge every federal facility today to participate in the Federal Electronics Recycling and Reuse Challenge to further promote best end-of-life management practices within the federal community.”
