Iron ore exports from India grew by 134 percent in April-March 2004-05 to $2.630 billion compared to $1.126 billion the previous year.
The export of finished iron and steel exports also posted a sharp increase between the two years, with total exports up 46.55 percent to $3631.2 million.
Other metallic commodities posted the following changes between 2003 and last year: Iron and steel bar rod exports rose by 18.62 percent to $383.94 million; ferro alloy exports stood at $182.31 million in 2004-05, increasing by 115.47 percent from the prior year; and imports of metaliferous ores and scrap increased 82.91 percent to $2370.39 million in 2004-05, according to commerce ministry data.
