The owner of a decades-old battery recycling plant in Texas has agreed to spend $20 million to cut lead emissions in one of the nation's fastest-growing suburbs.
Exide Technologies Inc.'s plan is expected to sharply cut emissions at its plant in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, from a high of 2.47 tons in 2008 — when the Environmental Protection Agency told the company it must reduce emissions — to 640 pounds, or 0.32 tons per year, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The promised improvements will occur over the next 18 months, Exide spokeswoman Susan Jaramillo said.
