ExideTechnologies sold its lead acid battery recycling facility inPont-Saint-Maxence, France to a subsidiary of Eco-Bat Technologies plc, ownedby Quexco Inc., for an undisclosed price.
Exidesaid its French recycling facility, which has an annual capacity of 45,000tons, reuses lead, plastic and sulphuric acid in new batteries and otherproducts.
"Thesale will allow Exide Technologies to consolidate our recycling efforts inEurope and concentrate production at our four facilities in Spain andPortugal," said Exide president and COO Craig Muhlhauser.
UK-based Eco-Bat, which has smeltingoperations in Europe and South Africa, is owned by Dallas-based Quexco Inc.
Princeton,N.J.-based Exide, which recycles about 50 million batteries each year, said itwill now operate 11 recycling facilities worldwide.
