The 6th European Plastics News Barrier PET Bottles conference will examine trends in barrier applications, explore developments in barrier enhancement technologies and additives, and help identify how the industry can overcome obstacles to further market penetration, according to the show’s organizers.
The event takes place May 6 and 7 in Brussels. On May 7, two sessions examine issues of recyclability. One, entitled “Maintaining the Recyclability of PET Bottles,” is being led by Paul Davidson, an advisor to the United Kingdom-based recycling organization WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme).
The second, a technical session, features Casper van den Dungen of Germany’s ITW Poly Recycling GmbH. He will be reviewing a recently-completed assessment of a protocol for the recyclability of PET barrier bottles.
End user advances in barrier technology will be the focus of a panel discussion featuring panelists from Pepsi-Cola International, Heineken, Kraft Foods and Flex/Cocoon. “Thomas R. Clark and Timothy J. Boyd from Kraft Foods will give the brand owner’s perspective when evaluating new barrier technologies and discuss the challenges of remaining glass-to-plastic transitions as well as the information suppliers should provide to brand owners when proposing new technologies,” notes a news release from European Plastics News, organizers of the event.
